Salifert Magnesium Liquid Why is magnesium needed? Magnesium is present in natural seawater in a fairly high concentration (1300 - 1400 mg / L). Magnesium is an essential part of the chlorophyll, which is necessary for photosynthesis. Without photosynthesis, algae and therefore the corals that we keep in our aquariums would not survive. Magnesium also has another important function because magnesium allows the maintenance of the correct ratio of calcium concentration and carbonate hardness. Maintaining a correct magnesium concentration is therefore of great importance and is indirectly responsible for the rapid coral and lime algae growth. Magnesium is depleted by the growth of coral / algae and also by the use of excessive amounts of limewater or by unnaturally high calcium, KH and pH levels. About liquid magnesium: This supplement is highly concentrated. Each liter contains approximately 25000 mg of magnesium. To avoid ionic imbalance, this product contains magnesium ions in a good balance with other ions such as sulphate, chloride, bromide, sodium and calcium. All ingredients are pharmaceutical grade or even better. This ensures that no unwanted elements are added to your valuable aquarium. This supplement is intended to be used on a regular maintenance basis. If the concentration of magnesium is significantly lower than 1300 mg / L, we recommend using Seachem Reef Advantage Magnesium first to increase the magnesium content.
